Dr . Michael Jaff has been named president of Newton-Wellesley Hospital.  Announcement follows in full:

On behalf of the Boards of Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Partners HealthCare, we are very pleased to announce that Michael R. Jaff, DO has been chosen as the new leader of Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Board certified in internal medicine and vascular medicine, Dr. Jaff has led vascular medicine programs at Massachusetts General Hospital since arriving in 2004 and is the medical director of the Fireman Vascular Center. In addition, he has been active in the leadership of clinical process improvement across all clinical areas of MGH and has helped to organize the MGH Center for Specialized Services, which is integrating international and executive health programs.

Dr. Jaff is a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and an alumnus of the Harvard Business School’s general management program. Following his training in internal medicine and vascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Jaff began his career in private practice in community hospitals, including Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Before coming to MGH Dr. Jaff led a number of vascular medicine programs while also establishing VasCore, which has become the world’s largest clinical trials core lab for non-invasive vascular imaging. He is an active practicing vascular medicine specialist, evaluating and managing complex patients with peripheral vascular disorders. His understanding of the importance of community hospitals, his enthusiasm for tackling the challenges ahead, and his fundraising experience – added to his reputation for hard work, problem solving collaboration, and approachability – made him the ideal candidate for this new role. A Newton resident since 2004, Dr. Jaff and his family also rely on NWH for their health care and are deeply committed to the institution. We expect that he will begin his role as President in the early fall.

As we celebrate the conclusion of this process it is important to thank the search committee for its many months of work. The committee met extensively during this process and carefully vetted a pool of impressive and well-qualified candidates. They paid particular attention to finding the right balance of skill, commitment, and fit with the NWH culture and found it with Dr. Jaff.

We also want to thank Interim President Ellen Moloney for her superb leadership during this transition. Over the past year Ellen has capably led our organization through a stressful interval with good humor and creativity and earned our deep respect for her skills and professionalism.
