2016Image | Newton MA News and Politics BlogAll I want this Fathers Day is 1000 bikes on the streets of Newton – and a few more Village Greeters.

This is the 4th year of the Tour de Newton and each year it has grown with more riders.  The registration for this year’s ride is getting pretty full but we still have spots available.  So if you’re thinking of riding you better sign up now.

The Tour de Newton is a completely unique event particularly attuned to Newton.  The ride starts simultaneously in all 13 villages with everyone riding with their own village neighbors.  Once it begins, there are groups of 25-30 riders all over the city riding the same 20 mile loop through all the other villages.  Each village-to-village hop is just a mile or two.  At each village there’s a brief stop where you’re met by the Village Greeters who hand out snacks, village badges, and a couple of minutes of info about the village and you’re on your way.  It’s a relaxed leisurely ride, perfect for kids, families and casual riders.

For faster riders there’s the Contra Tour.  Ride the route in reverse with faster paced riders.  For beginners there’s the Petite Tour – a 3 mile, 3 village mini-tour.  Sign up for any of them here.

If you not going to ride, we’d love to have your help as a Village Greeter.  It’s a great, fun boisterous way to spend a Sunday morning.  You’ll love it.  Send me an email ([email protected]) if you’re interested.

Lots of kudos to Heidi Werner who once again came up with wonderful new design for this year’s Tour de Newton graphics.  Heidi is definitely leaving her graphic footprint on Newton.  She also designed the Upper Falls Greenway logo and the Newton Nomadic Theater logo.
