This is just a final reminder about the fundraiser and public information forum we are hosting tomorrow (Sunday), April 3 at 2 pm at the Newton Highlands Congregational Church . This will provide vital support to cover certain outside professional costs essential for establishing a Local Historic District (LHD) in our Village.
Sunday’s main feature is a highly acclaimed presentation on the “Historic Homes of Newton Highlands” by Area Council President Srdj Nedeljkovic. Srdj’s photography and vivid narrative will let you experience anew the diverse architecture and historical significance of our remarkable and unique village. It will also make abundantly clear exactly why our proposed LHD is so essential for preserving as much as we can here for the benefit of all those who live in the Highland and for countless others who come here to shop in our Village and walk our leafy residential neighborhoods.
We hope to raise between $50.00 and $100.00 from every household within the proposed LHD , from other friends of the Highlands, and from supporters of historic preservation throughout Newton; but any amount will be deeply appreciated. If you are unable to attend, you can still make a tax deductible contribution to: “Newton Highlands Community Development Corporation (NHCDC); P.O. Box 61071; Newton Highlands, MA. 02461
See you Sunday
Good thing Sunday isn’t April 1, or we wouldn’t know how much of the talk to believe. :)
P.S. If we attend the talk, will we learn how to pronounce “Srdj Nedeljkovic”?

Dunno if I’m right…but I’ve been saying:
SURJ (surge)
NEDEL-J : (neh dell) – J (like the soft “ge” above in surge)
KOVIC (co-vick)
As someone with an often mispronounced surname, I am sensitive to the ear of the speaker as well as the listener. I hope Srdj will weigh in on this one!
By the way, Srdj is short for Srdjan (surgeon). He is an M.D., specializing in Pain Management, and I think as such, a surgeon!

It took me 4 full years on the Highlands Area Council to be able to spell Srdj’s last name without looking it up on a past Secretary’s report. I suspect it will take another 4 to spell Anil’s last name without some kind of gouge.
