Trees World Tree Center Memorial http://www.911memorial.org/blog/tags/award

There is an interesting talk tonight about the 9/11 memorial trees by Dr. Bruce Fraedrich.

Dr Fraedrich is the VP of research at Bartlett Tree Experts in Raleigh, NC. His talk will be about the 400 Swamp Oak trees grown for the World Trade Center Memorial. This canopy forest will span an eight-acre plaza, memorializing the victims of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The talk will give a “behind the scenes” discussion of the design, planting and maintenance of the Memorial trees along with information on tree care. I have heard from Newton residents that have visited Bartlett’s research site that Bartlett is performing highly relevant research on tree positioning and maintenance in urban environments that is applicable to Newton’s Urban Forest.

This talk is sponsored by the Newton Free Library, Newton Tree Conservancy and Green Newton. The talk begins at 7:00 pm in the Druker Auditorium at the Library on Homer St in Newton Centre.
