A traffic counter has gone missing from the commercial section of Walnut Street. The city confirms that the counter had been installed in mid October but was missing from it’s spot in front of Great Harvest Bread Company on October 18. Though, while the city confirms that the counter is missing, Newton Police say they have no report of vandalism or theft in regards to the counter. The device had been chained to a pole and witnesses believe that bolt cutters were used to remove it from the pole and separate the device from the tubes that extend into the street.

The counter had been in place to verify traffic studies conducted previously. The missing component is the data logger, supposedly worth more than $1000 when purchased new. The data was still in the device at the time it went missing.
