Don’t forget to go to the Candidates Showcase tomorrow: a double event that will bring together 21 of the 22 candidates running for the Charter Review Commission and 16 of the 17 candidates running for the contested citywide Alderman-at-Large and School Committee races!
Meet the Charter Review Committee candidates from 2-4:30pm at the Hyde Community Center, 90 Lincoln St., Newton Highlands. Moderated by Gloria Gavris.
Meet the Aldermen-at-Large and School Committee candidates from 7-9:30pm at the Woman’s Club of Newton Highlands, 72 Columbus St., Newton Highlands. Moderated by Marjorie Arons-Barron.
All of this brought to you as a public service by the three Ward 5 Area Councils: Newton Highlands, Newton Upper Falls, and Waban.
Thanks to the tri unions for putting this together.
Thanks for putting this together! Looking forward to seeing everyone and discussing the Charter!
I hope all of the candidate events go well today. I will be looking forward to catching up when the video coverage is available since I will miss the forums due to a business trip in Europe.
As a shameless plug for one of my issues, it’s great to have the Area Councils continue their leadership role in engaging the community for local and citywide issues.
I will raise a toast to all of the candidates with a Bavarian beer tonight.
I hope the candidates make clear where they stand on the status quo of Newton politics. If any of them don’t know where they stand then they should explain why.
I am looking for people who will support a shift away from the mayoral system. Cambridge has a city manager who guided it through good economic growth. Newton needs skilled professionals running the show here. What we have now is a leadership group who is making poor decisions and causing significant divisions with in our city.
@Colleen: You realize, I’m sure, that Cambridge’s success didn’t have nearly as much to do with having a city manager as the fact that the city made a commitment to smart growth development and the creation of workforce housing?
Thanks for organizing the forum and good luck to all the candidates. I’m away on an anniversary weekend with my wife so will not be there, but look forward
to watching the video.
David,
Happy Anniversary!!!
Groot and David, we missed you.
What an excellent, and very well-attended event. A huge thanks to the Area Councils, and moderator Gloria Gavris, for providing this forum. It took lots volunteer effort, and it provided a great service to the community. The level of interest is surely a positive sign for the charter commission.
At least one thing was agreed upon by all…we have an exceptionally strong candidate pool.
Thanks to the three Area Councils for organizing this event! It went off without a hitch and that was no easy feat given the number of candidates. As expected, Gloria Gavris, did an outstanding job as moderator and there was a good crown on hand. All in all, a great success!
Many thanks to all. I was grateful to be at the event today with so many thoughtful people.
Thank you to the Area Councils for putting this together – and thank you to all who took the time, on a Sunday afternoon, to listen to all of us speak.
