If I have my druthers Friday, that’s where I’ll be–munching grilled cheese or tasting the wine, beer and champagne.

Lights and music are also on offer–it’s the Highlands tree-lighting and sing-along. I think last year it was called “Light up the Highlands,” but I could be wrong. I hear the lights this year will be even more spectacular than last year.

But the main draw is the community. Supporting the funky local stores that make the Highlands a special place. If you’re into it, a chair massage, art displays, hot cocoa and store discounts will also be at hand.

Kid stuff includes stories, face painting, a jellybean contest, candy tattoos and “mystery bags,” whatever they are. As early as 2 pm, Green Planet Kids will have crafts–don’t you want a home-made “luminaria?” Tell me what it is when you find out.

The deal on the grilled cheese, which comes with hot tomato soup, is this: Bring five cans of food to donate to the food pantries, pay $5 for your meal. 10 cans and the meal is free. That deal runs at Bread & Chocolate from 5 to 7:30pm.

At 7 pm, the elves light up the trees, sing along with you, there’s something with candles. Everything wraps up by bedtime (9 pm). Maybe we’ll see you there?
