Wow. Sorry to see Emily leave. Felt like she was just getting started.
I think there are only two people — Gail Spector and Don Seiffert — who know more about how hard this job is than I do. And the resources and support Emily had available to her have diminished since Gail and certainly Don were at the helm.
Emily also had the entirely unfair disadvantage of having Gail and me commenting on her every move here, not typical or easy either. She’s earned my respect for putting up with that with grace.
Thanks Emily for your service to our community. And remind me to share with you the secret former TAB-person handshake.
Bring Don back!!!!!!
I am happy being a writer at the BBJ and letting my editors deal with all the complaints. And I don’t think Gatehouse actually would want me back anyway. Best of luck to Emily and happy to hear she’ll now be editor at MY hometown paper! Along with Ethan Forman (TAB circa 1997 or so)
Don, we may never have met, but I’ve heard *stories.* Someday I hope to hear them from your own mouth.
Up north, I’m just going to be a humble Metro Editor. I’m sure the more senior folks will be eager to handle those circulation complaints and vacation stops themselves.
Many of my former colleagues from GateHouse have left for different career paths, so I’m always pleased when I see a journalist stay in the field. I’m very happy for Emily. I’m sure she”ll do great in Salem.
I’m also excited to see what Andy Levin, a Newton guy, is going to bring to the TAB.
Good luck Emily, and thanks for your strong contributions in keeping the community well-informed.
Greg, clear-eyed and unvarnished as usual. Agreed on all points.
