The Newton Historical Commission(NHC) is seeking qualified volunteers to help preserve historically significant properties Citywide. The NHC also administers the City’s Demolition Delay Ordinance.
Additionally, Newton has four Historic District Commissions in the Auburndale, Chestnut Hill, Newtonville, and Newton Upper Falls villages that also have vacancies and seek qualified volunteers to serve. The village Historic District Commissions need lawyers, architects, builders, realtors and local citizens to review the appropriateness of proposed changes to exteriors of historic buildings located in the four local historic districts.
Volunteers must be as passionate about historic architecture as they are about working with homeowners on their proposed projects. All Commissions meet in the evening once a month.
