Does anybody remember/know which Red Sox players have lived in Newton over the years? I have Ted Williams, Jamie Piersall, David Ortiz, Jason Varitek, Jon Lester, Doug Mirabelli, Alan Embree. There are others that are listed on Wikipedia but I’m looking for the ones who stand out, meaning they were great ball players or they were here during important years. Thanks.
Legendary Red Sox in Newton

Here’s an item from a recent Upper Falls News about a more obscure Red Sox player:
Thanks for the reminder Jerry! I had him on my list at one point but he got lost in the shuffle. And I never knew that he opened the Collins Bar & Grill.
Ted Williams lived on Lucille Place just off Route 9 so a big stretch of the Road was re-named the Ted Williams Highway. Jimmy Piersall, not Jamie, lived in Newton.
About 15 years ago my wife and I came thisclose to buying a house on Lucille Place. The realtor may have closed that sale if she had only told us that Williams once lived on the street.
Yoouuuukkkkk!
How could I have forgotten? How humiliating.
Did Youk live in Newton? I know that just before he went to the Yankees he was living in a house he renovated just over 128 and the Charles in Weston, off Rt 30. Before then?
@Steve: You mean you haven’t memorized every Village 14 post ever written? He lived in Auburndale.
Matt Batts. I know you have never heard of him but he played for the Red Sox sometime in the early to mid-50s and lived in a large white house at the intersection of Woodward and Brewster Road. Tommy Holmes, the legendary Red Sox left fielder and manager also lived in Newton, but I’m not certain where.
JD Drew. One giant grand slam and some of the best defensive RF since Dwight Evans.
Sorry. Tommy Holmes played and managed for the Braves, not the Red Sox.
Matt Batts passed away just this summer at 91 – http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2013/08/02/matt-batts-red-sox-catcher-with-summer-team/DGTcsAYsUvZybSPcuXNvqJ/story.html
Ted Williams also lived on Locke rd in Waban.
Jimmy Piersall was on White Oak.
According to my father-in-law, hall of Famer Joe Cronin (#4) lived on Lake Ave. He drove to Garb Drug in his Cadillac every day (then as the American League President) and bought four newspapers with a $100 bill. The section of Crystal Lake opposite the house is called Cronin’s Cove.
Matt Batts also lived in West Newton, on Milo Street.
also Sammy White of Noble Street, better known to my generation as the owner of the Brighton bowling alley where there was a murder
Jim Corsi pitched for the Red Sox in the late 90s and is one of 10 major leaguers born in Newton. The page at the below link is sortable by city. Also, Red Sox great Dom DiMaggio (Joe’s brother) is buried in Newton.

Gabe Kapler lived in the same building as Doug Mirrabelli
