The three Neighborhood Area Councils of Ward 5 will be hosting a candidates forum the week before the election. The forum will be held at the Emerson Center, One Pettee Street, Upper Falls. Candidates for Ward 5 Alderman at Large, Candidates for Ward 2 School Committee and Candidates for Mayor have been invited to answer questions from a neighborhood perspective with citywide impact. The forum is scheduled for Wed. Oct 30th from 7:00 to 9:30 and will be moderated by Marjorie Arons-Barron.
While the location of this event has a Ward 5 focus, all are welcome and encouraged to attend. Note that World Series updates will be provided during the evening, in the event that a sixth game is needed for the Red Sox to win the series.
Questions can be sent to members of the Newton Upper Falls Neighborhood Area Council, Newton Highlands Neighborhood Area Council or newly form Waban Neighborhood Area Council. Questions will also be taken from the floor during the forum.
@Groot: Thanks for getting the word out about this HISTORIC event! This Tri-Council sponsored Candidates Forum is the first joint sponsorship by the three Councils of Ward 5. We hope to continue to cooperate with our neighboring area councils in future elections to bring the voters of Newton greater communication about our local issues and the candidates views on those issues!
By the way, the Parks and Rec. Department has informed us that the Emerson Community Center is located at 51 Pettee Street, (not 1 Pettee Street) in Newton Upper Falls. They have also asked us to communicate to the public that the Emerson Community Center is in a building that is a condominium complex and that, while there are 2 handicap accessible parking spots in the parking lot, people parking in the parking lot in reserved spaces run a substantial risk of having their cars towed away. So, we kindly ask all people attending this event to use street parking which is abundant. We hope to see you there on October 30.
Waban Area Council Candidate Maureen Reilly-Meagher and I (also a Waban Area Council Candidate) spent 2 hours in the 32 degree heat this morning at the Waban T stop. At about the rate of 1 per minute, we handed out flyers for the Tri-Council Candidates’ Forum at Emerson Community Center that will occur on Wednesday night at 7pm. Candidates from the Ward 5 Aldermen-At-Large race, the Ward 2 School Committee race and Mayoral (and Aldermanic) Candidate Ted Hess-Mahan will all be there answering the community’s questions. The forum will be moderated by Marjorie Arons-Barron.
The three Area Councils of Ward 5 (The Upper Falls, Highlands and Waban Area Councils) are proud to sponsor this event for Newton residents. Here’s hoping all of you who blog here will attend Wednesday evening and learn Game 6 scores from a muted monitor, indicating your profound skills at multi-tasking!
