Charming, majestic, lush, sensual, stunning – all of these words have been tossed around at New Philharmonia Orchestra’s rehearsals for this weekend’s Memories of Italy concerts – and they’re all true! While I get excited for almost every concert I play, this one is extra special. I invite you all to join me to experience the power, grace, and calm of music and, because I love this rambunctious blog, I even have a 25% off discount code for you. The concerts are Saturday, March 16 at 8pm and Sunday, March 17 at 3pm at the First Baptist Church in Newton Centre.
The program is three works by Respighi, The Birds, Pines of Rome, and Concerto Gregoriano. The music is colorful and effortlessly captures everyone’s imagination. Birds fly through the orchestra, giant pines sprout from the brass, the timpani rumbles like a giant through the woods, and world-class violinist James Buswell transcends high above the thousands of notes on his page with his most outstanding performance.
James Buswell made his solo premiere with the New York Philharmonic when he was only 7 years old and has since spent decades touring the world as a major soloist. I could go on and on but I don’t want to lose your attention so click here to read his bio. I do have to say though that this is such a great opportunity to hear a musician of Mr. Buswell’s calibre right here in our backyard. New Phil rocks.
If you haven’t been inside the First Baptist Church then you must come. The experience is at first breathtaking, the beauty of the architecture and the nuances of detail are awesome. When you add glorious music to the space it just becomes all that more wonderful. Grand concert halls are great but the intimacy and beauty of performing in a space like FBC offers a truly special experience.
To sweeten the deal, when you order in advance online at www.newphil.org use the code VILLAGE14 to receive a 25% discount off your purchase price. Please note that this discount is only available by advance purchase, New Phil is not able to accommodate discounts at the door.
