Apparently, the Board is rested and ready for a New Year and a busy week ahead.

A search committee for the next police chief has been named and will be voted this Wednesday. See the names in the digest.

Ruthanne Fuller’s financial audit committees have been hard at work, and the work products are coming to light now with policies to protect whisteblowers and on investments, but also some sober news about record keeping and the advisability of hiring new staff to make sure the City continues to be competitive for grants.

Sidewalk snow and other obstacles to safe walking are being taken up by–count ’em–three committees Wednesday night, as are the plastic bag fee and global warming. Those interested in energy and greenhouse gases may also want to attend the ribbon cutting at the Lower Falls Community Center on Tuesday morning.

And speaking of capital assets, modular classrooms will get some discussion, and renovations to the plumbing and bathrooms at Gath Pool will be up for a vote Monday.

Happy New Year, all!
