Sing Out!

We, the Newton Community Chorus, are a warm and welcoming group of singers who are as ardent about improving our musical ability as we are about having fun doing it. We create an atmosphere of conviviality and acceptance that allows several generations of music lovers, with various levels of experience, to share the challenge of learning and performing classical choral works. Our many dedicated member volunteers make possible an ongoing commitment to professionalism and high-quality live performance. It is the capacity of this music to connect us to each other as well as to our community’s soul that inspires us to sing, making our joyful noise.

Love Letters
By A.R. Gurney
Directed by Candy Gold | Produced by Elisabeth Peet and Julie Wiseman

Performance dates: October 18-21, 2012

Parts are available for men and women from 20-50; actors need to be able to play multiple ages.

Please prepare a monologue approx. 2 minutes long, preferably NOT from the show. There will possibly be cold readings from the script and a short interview.

The story: The piece is comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. As the actors read the letters aloud, what is created is an evocative, touching, frequently funny but always telling pair of character studies in which what is implied is as revealing and meaningful as what is actually written down.

Newton Open Studios* – Call for Artists

Newton Juried Art Fest: November 3 & 4

Big changes are coming to the NOS Juried show, to better serve Newton’s artists! Our intensive fall weekend show, which attracts over 1000 visitors, will now have 2 exciting juried sections. The new format will allow many more fine artists to participate in the fest.

All Newton artists may apply to one or both sections. The show takes place the weekend of November 3 & 4, and is a wonderful way for you to keep your work on the minds of Newton area art lovers during the holiday season.

This year’s Juror, Paula Tognarelli, director of the Griffin Museum of Photography, is looking forward to seeing submissions in ALL media. We invite a different juror each year, giving you the opportunity to have a new museum curator or gallerist see your work each time you apply.
