The annual St. Mary of Carmen Society festival begins Wednesday, July 16 and takes place through Sunday night, July 20 in Pellegrini Park in Nonantum. If you’ve never been, you are missing something very special. If you have attended previously and you’re in town (or in the city 🙂 ), you’re likely to attend again and I hope you have a great time!
I could watch the video at the bottom of the Festival link all day. The little girls from the 1970s in their communion dresses…, and the raising of the Saint… I didn’t have anything like this in my town (City). What a treasure of a video.
Thank you Gail & Hoss! We are hoping for good weather, please check out our website @ stmaryofcarmen.org
It truly is a great family and neighborhood event!
Please come and celebrate with us
We have guests coming in from the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington and it will be with a great deal of Newton Village pride that I bring them to Pellegrini Park this coming weekend. The Saint Mary of Carmen Society Festival is the very best of the many outstanding village or community shows this city puts on each year. I may get in trouble with some of my colleagues on the Newton Highlands Area Council for saying this, but there’s something very deep and traditional about this Festival that makes it very unique in a City where many residents think that everything they do is uniqe. And yes, this is one Irishman that loves those Italian flag stripes on Nonantum’s streets this time of year.
Yup, I’ll be bringing my Cali relatives to the festa this weekend! This Jewish girl also loves the Italian Flag stripes…that pride is what makes our City unique, and we need to hold on to it!! Thanks, Chuck, and all involved!!
Thank you for your kind words, this truly is a family event, no matter what heritage anyone has, for this week every person can revel in being Italian! Its with great pride that we do what we do, from the festa to the decorations to the music. Its always in our minds the best when we come together as a community and celebrate!
FYI! Even though its raining now, based on the forecast we are planning on opening this evening, with the hope of clearing as the night progresses!
We’ve loved the St. Mary of Carmen Fest in previous years, but maybe next year there could be better communication online about what time the rides open on each day. We showed up at 3 PM yesterday and saw that the rides didn’t open until 5. We saw at least 10 other families show up around 3, expecting the rides to be open. We had evening plans and couldn’t wait around, so we had to take our very disappointed 4 year old home.
@ Kristine:
Ditto.
I thought the times on the poster were the times the BANDS happened to come on, but apparently it refers to the opening times in general. I’m still guessing here.
Either case, myself and a disappointed 2.5 year-old went home at 2. Will try again next year!

My sincere apoligies for the miscommunication, as a committiee we are seeing that this once neighborhood tradition is growing fast! We need to do a better job with the starting times being publized better! And we will do this next year for everyones benefit! We are truly sorry we disapointed your family! For next year the openning times are :
