I was walking down the Upper Falls Greenway this morning and came upon a pair of people putting the finishing touches on the installation of ten signs. Each sign contained a haiku on the front and back for a total of twenty miniature poems by different Newton poets celebrating spring.
It turns out that these two people were the masterminds behind the whole project – Grey Held and Elizabeth Lund. The project is called Poetry Newton.
It turns out that these signs were first installed in Newton Centre and Capt Ryan Park at the start of May. Today they were moved to the Upper Falls Greenway for their next stop. Over the coming months they’ll continue to move to different spots around the city and pop up to spread a little joy and whimsy along the way,
I love this project but I particularly loved just stumbling upon it by accident. – Thanks Grey and Elizabeth!
Grey Held and Elizabeth Lund are creatives in Newton that make our village centers so special with their artistic contributions! Their HaikuNewton project brings joy to residents in unexpected ways as you walk through various open spaces in our city. We love that these lawn signs are being moved around to various village locations – first Newton Centre and West Newton and now Upper Falls! At Newton Community Pride we are proud to play a small part in supporting their efforts to bring poetry and public art to the city.
Newton Community Pride has played a HUGE role in this project. Thank you very much for supporting our efforts and for helping the arts flourish in Newton!
