A number of us in Newton Corner were disheartened to hear over the last couple of days that Buff’s Pub was “closing.” In fact, the Boston Restaurant Blog reported that it has “closed until further notice.” Fortunately, Dave from Buff’s responded on Twitter that it is not a permanent or long-term closure, but a (we hope) brief closure to due to a couple of positive COVID tests, necessitating a “couple of days” to clean and re-test.
Let’s hope we have wings available again for the Patriot-free (so weird to type that) NFL Conference Championship weekend.
I’m glad to see that the closure is just to make sure the restaurant is safe. I’ve always loved going to buffs to wait for the last 553 heading back to West Newton and the staff is among the nicest out there. Even though they’re cash only, their service and selections are really good and it’s nice to be able to watch whatever games are on the screen. Hopefully I’ll be able to stop by Buff’s once the pandemic ends (knock on wood).
@Terry, you’ll be happy to know that Buff’s now takes credit cards – it’s confirmed on their web site, and I remember having that option the last time I got takeout there.
That’s especially welcome now that there are no banks in Newton Corner at all (Citizens branch closed months ago, I think there is a single BoA ATM left in the whole village center).
Ahh, Doug. Come over to Newton Highlands. We have two in the village center and another 3 spread out over the village. We’ll gladly lend you one along with a nail salon. Just don’t touch Village Bank.
Glad to hear it’s a temporary issue. Buff’s Pub is certainly a Newton institution. I lived over in that end of town 40+ years ago and Buff’s was on the go way back then … and had been for a while.
Just checked – Buff’s opened in 1976
@Bob Just one bank would be nice, thanks.
I’m stunned you only have one ATM! At least when BoA pulled out of the Highlands they installed an ATM on Lincoln St.
I did take out from Buff’s last Saturday night, and it was a zoo in there. VERY crowded, even though the tables were spread out, and the entire bar was full (plexi in between each 2 seats). When I got home, I told my wife that they were bound to have issues based on how many people were in there, so I’m not surprised about this at all.
