The Newton City Council is scheduled to vote tonight on a proposal to reduce the council from 24 to 16, with eight elected at-large from each ward and eight elected by the ward.
I’m not sure if anyone has any thoughts about this issue, but I figured I’d mention it just in case.
Lots of thoughts…let’s offer it to the voters. We have over a year to discuss before the voters vote. We owe it to voters to offer a reduction. They asked for it twice. While I believe 24 beats 16 for thorough discussion on committees, i would honor the electorate’s wish for a council reduction. If they don’t want this configuration of 8 at large plus 8 directly elected by ward, let them say so!
Question: If it passes tonight and Setti doesn’t sign, does it roll over to 2018 for Ruthanne?
@Sallee
It does not. The HRP process would have to be restarted with a new item.
Anyone going? Anyone want to Facebook Live it? I’m just too exhausted to go
It passed 17-6. (Lennon was absent)
