The final two on and off ramps connecting I-95/Route 128 with Kendrick Street to Nahanton Street will open this Friday (Dec. 1) at 8 p.m, MassDOT has announced.
The move will allow drivers to connect with I-95/Route 128 northbound from Kendrick and for drivers traveling southbound on I-95 to connect directly to Kendrick Street westbound (to Wells Ave and Nathanton Streets) via a new access road and exit ramp.
and to Dedham, Rachel, Winchester, Brookline, Parker and beyond. Open the floodgates!
Anyone know when they plan on reopening the exit to Route 9 EB at night? It’s been closed without any warning or signage.
@Adam: I suppose we could build a great, big, beautiful, border wall.
And make Needham pay for it.
Speaking of Route 9…does anyone know what the final configuration of rt.9 an rt 128 will be? Right now they have the SB entrance to Rt 128 on the left side and the NB entrance on the right so if you are coming down the hill and going straight you either get jammed in the right lane by those trying to get NB on 128 or if you are in the left lane you have suddenly have to shift to the right after the NB on ramp but before the SB entry lanes. Then after that there are more shifts to the lanes in the road because the lanes are not straight. Thus going straight on the road involves much shifting with people abruptly changing lanes to get in the right place and many near misses. This is escalated at rush hour when they have a policeman blocking off the right lane near the office park to let those cars out or what occurred the other day where the police man stopped the two lanes of traffic coming down the hill so that those coming from williams st could get on. Will the barriers placed between Williams st and rt 9 remain? This area is the bane of my existence when I have to take one of my children to a soccer practice in metro west and keep getting caught in jams at this interchange. It is especially annoying when I am coming home at 8pm and just want to get home!
@Newton Highlands Mom – The final configuration of Rt 9 West will have the 95N ramp on the right and the 95S on the left as it is today. I wouldn’t be surprised if they tweak the lanes and signs a bit between now and whenever they finish.
Both Rt 9 lanes will ultimately be straight and handle through traffic. You can find the plans here http://www.massdot.state.ma.us/highway/highlightedprojects/needhamwellesleyI95addalane.aspx
Amazingly, the 75% plans had no improvement for the Williams Street merge that’s so dangerous it requires a patrol car. I asked about it in a public meeting and got a shrug from the engineers. Hopefully MassDOT has come up with something better.
I live on Nahanton St. and starting by 4 pm every day until well after 7 pm it is gridlocked in both directions. Also, Eversource has been doing work 7 days a week at the intersection of Dedham and Nahanton. It’s a disaster and it’s getting worse.
Peter Karg you can see the plan for the Dedham/Nahanton intersection here:
