Ira Segel, co-founder and longtime operator of the Mr. Sid’s men’s clothing store in Newton Centre, died Sunday at the age of 78, the trade magazine Womens Wear Daily reports. The full story is behind a paybwall and I haven’t seen any other updates yet. More to come.

Here’s the Globe obituary.
Mr. Sid is a significant landmark in our city and a fixture in Newton Centre. Ira Segel leaves a legacy that deserves to be celebrated.
@ Greg said: Ira Segel deserves to be celebrated. He was kind and respectful to adolescents in need of dress clothing at a very awkward age When my oldest son needed his first suit, we tried several shops, only to have him come home miserable and feeling awful about himself. Then we discovered Mr. Sid’s and he came home smiling. Ira Segel had a way of making my sons feel comfortable at a tender age, and I still smile when I drive by Mr. Sid’s. He is a reminder that a community is made up of people with a diversity of gifts.
Very fond memories of the place.
By the way – can’t quite remember – what was the name of the Parrot they had resident there?
