Well, I’m not voting for blubbering Baker.
I’ve always thought there was something fishy about that guy.
I’m not telling you the candidate for whom I will vote (remember we still have “secret” balloting)… but, to be fair, let’s balance a man’s tears in this election run-up against a woman’s witch-like shriek about Armageddon if she weren’t elected two years ago.
Both candidates have certainly been visceral.
But, I don’t vote with my viscera.
I’ll vote for the candidate I consider to be the better possible Statesperson. (Although I may be dreaming.)
@Sallee Lipshutz … though it would make a good bumper sticker.
I already have a good bumper sticker, courtesy of my humorous husband! (“Reduce health care costs: DROP DEAD!”) So, I suppose I’ll have to leave my viscera at home on Tuesday
I’m most impressed by Deb Goldberg. And she won the nomination by edging out two other very impressive candidates.
I rarely make a point of voting against a candidate, but for the anti-LGBT GOP candidate for Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito,Charlie “Crocodile Tears” Baker’s running mate, I will proudly make an exception. As a State Rep. she led the charge to make same-sex marriage illegal, she voted against the Transgender Bill, and she supported Gov. Mittens Romney’s effort to abolish the LGBT Youth Commission. Given the history of MA GOP governors who left their Lt. Governor in charge before the end of their terms, there is just too much at stake. So I am voting for Democrats Martha Coakley for Governor and Steve Kerrigan, an openly gay man, for Lt. Governor.
What Ted said. The idea of Karyn Polito being a heartbeat away from the state corner office is very troubling under any circumstances given her position on social issues. However, Baker’s involvement in the Pay to Play caper with Chris Christie makes Polito as Lt. Gov a huge concern.
Though the facts of the NJ Pay to Play case were known last spring, Christie made sure that documentation would not be released until November 6th. Hmmm.
Neither candidate for Governor overwhelms me, however if I vote based solely on the Lt. Governor race, hand’s down I am for Steve Kerrigan! That guy is a total class act!
For State Auditor, Patricia Saint Aubin is the clear choice regardless of party. Unlike the current occupant of the office, she has professional auditing experience. The number of audits has been declining every year and that is not a good thing for those who care how their taxes are spent. The Boston Globe has endorsed her: http://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/editorials/2014/10/24/patricia-saint-aubin-for-auditor/T4AU3IIurqxJmOIUj1orXM/story.html
On my 18th Birthday in 1976 I walked into Newton City Hall and proudly walked out a registered Democrat. It was a decision I rarely had cause to regret until the Obama years. Sadly, in many ways my party has become indistinguishable from Republicans. The Democrats are no longer the liberals and Republicans the conservatives. Now, both parties are far too conservative for me.
When it comes to progressive ideals, my party has dropped the ball, relying on the courts and the voters to make the kind of social change that should be coming from elected leaders… marriage equality, marijuana reform, and death with dignity.
And Democrats have been willing accomplices of the Republicans in dismantling our Constitutional rights through the Patriot Act, secret courts, warrantless wiretaps, “stop & frisk” policies, and other intrusions that would never have survived a legal challenge pre 9-11.
What’s particularly galling to me, is when an elected official representing themselves as a Democrat, goes out of their way to undermine an important social change brought about legally, by voters, through the ballot box. Of course I’m referring to Attorney General Martha Coakley, who has [metaphorically] stood in the dispensary door, to keep thousands of sick people from obtaining the medical marijuana prescribed by their doctors. This type of intrusion into personal medical decisions is not new for Coakley, who vociferously opposed medical marijuana even before it was placed on the ballot more than two years ago. And she hasn’t stopped meddling yet, having recently gone to court in an effort to stop doctors from prescribing a new, FDA approved painkiller for patients in extreme pain.
Is Coakley, who clearly lacks both empathy as well as respect for the voters, really the type of person we want as the standard bearer of the party and Governor of the State? No thanks!
I’ll be voting for Evan Falchuk, the only gubernatorial candidate who understands the Governor of Massachusetts should be a leader for genuine social change.
Republicans the conservative party?
Look at who they nominated for Governor? They nominated Charlie “Left of Obama” Baker
Their Treasurer Nominee Mike Heffernan wants to follow the United Nations Principles of Investing
Their Lieutenant Governor Nominee Karyn Polito supports abortion, gay marriage, the DeLeo gun grab, failed to stand up for Justina Pelletier and failed to stand up against Deval Patrick’s proposal to house illegal aliens in Massachusetts
The Attorney General nominee John Miller believes that socialized health care is settled law
Alas, as I explained to Jane on FB, I’m not supposed to endorse candidates in races that my newspaper covers. But @JimMorrisonTAB if you’re out there, I’d really love to know what more you’ve learned about Marilyn Devaney letter-gate.
Gee, Ted,
I really appreciate your giving me even more reasons to vote FOR Baker/Polito and AGAINST Coakley/Kerrigan. I didn’t know a lot of what you said, but I could never vote for Coakley the extremist anyway. She’s a radical feminist of the highest order, but she has done a better job this time kind of concealing it than she did when she ran against Scott Brown.
I’m writing in Charlie Shapiro for Governor’s Council.
I was really, really, disappointed to receive a robo call from Congressman Mike Capuano for Marilyn Devaney today.
Inexcusable.
Coakley/Kerrigan
Goldberg

Balser and Creem
Bump, but not happy about it
Gov. Council: Sheff
Blanked the rest I think. It was a long ballot so it’s hard to remember some of the offices offhand. Twelve people at the City Clerk’s office this AM waiting for the office to open at 8:30.
So much for the secret ballot!
Ahh Creem. Who’s assistant responded to my inquiry about the constitutionality of a proposal with “if its not constitutional it won’t pass.” Only the best and brightest work for the best and brightest.
Mike
I won’t voted for Creem since she treated me extremely rudely when she was electioneering during the last election. I’d love to see her face a real challenger.
And for state elections, I refuse to vote straight party line. I hold my nose and do it when the US Senate is on the line, but for statewide offices I want the best person possible regardless of party.
mgra-I agree. I’m also one to blank a position when none of the candidates are acceptable. It’s my preferred choice to voting against a candidate, but Karyn Polito did it for me. The idea of having someone with her views on social issues a heartbeat away from the corner office is unacceptable to me.
On the subject of Karyn Polito, I do like how Ted uses “openly gay” as a credential…
Don’t get me wrong, anti-gay views are deplorable, but really…
Mike
Jane – my comment was related to what you said about voting for Bump.
I thought so, but it was really a choice between two candidates I’m not crazy about, but don’t really object to. In a long slate of candidates, there will be a few where you have to decide between blanking and voting for someone you’re not excited about. That was the one for me this year.
On the plus side, we made the news (kind of):

Thanks Chris. Worthy of its own thread.
