Only registered voters in Ward 2 are eligible to elect the alderman who currently sits in the seat occupied by Steve Linsky.
But of course everyone can choose between Eve Tapper and Emily Norton in our poll. Vote and tell us about your choice in the comments.

One reason there will be low voter turnout is the lack of viable candidates. Both these people favor tax increases and future overrides. Many voters refuse to support candidates who favor higher taxes.
tax increases and overrides may become necessary to maintain the City’s reputation as a place to live and to have your children attend public schools which, by the way, supports home values (notwithstanding the need for more affordable housing opportunities). Eve Tapper recognizes this and will not make false promises just to curry votes.
While working with Emily Norton, she know what it takes, has a vision and the full knowledge to bring sustainable innovation ideas to life in a way that make business sense for our Newton community! Not only is she a parent of 3 children, her leadership attributes is totally endless, but if you were to create an inventory list of traits that no leader can be without, it would be Emily Norton to make a huge difference!
Eve who?
Eve Tapper brings expertise in planning to the Board of Alderman that Emily Norton does not have.
President John Kennedy famously said: “… ask not what your country can do – ask what you can do four your country?” Well, if you want a great example of the spirit of volunteerism embodied by those inspirational words, look no further than Emily Norton, Candidate for Ward 2 Alderman. In addition to raising a family of three active boys, obtaining a Masters in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, working with the Democratic Leadership Council in both Washington D.C. and as the Massachusetts Director, serving as Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Oceans, Environment and Science during the Clinton Administration and now as a environmental consultant working on sustainable transportation, Emily has been a champion of volunteerism in Newton who:
*attends and provides insightful and detailed coverage of all school committee meetings “so you don’t have to” on her blog, Greatnewtonschools.org;
*helped pioneer and establish NewtonSTEM, an advocacy group bringing together parents, teachers, professionals and students to advocate for improved science, technology, engineering and math (critical 21st century skills);
*improved neighbor communication by creating the Newtonville listserve to facilitate communication between residents of Newtonville;
*actively works to enhance the vitality of Newtonville through “Beautiful Newtonville””
*is actively working with others to establish a Neighborhood Area Council in Newtonville;
Tireless, effective and committed to the City of Newton, Emily Norton is exactly the person we need representing Ward 2 in the Aldermanic Chambers.
