My very real fear is that the election will not be over tomorrow night and will drag on an on ala Gore vs Bush. I dread having weeks or months of post-election legal wrangling ahead of us.
Since this is an “open thread”… I really dislike the new thumbs-up/thumbs down feature associated with each comment on the Village 14 blog. It’s cheesy, and not conducive or beneficial to a free flowing exchange of opinions and ideas. I will almost certainly post less often, and I think the thumbs will have a negative impact on the number of posts, and suppress a lot of the more creative content on this blog.
Vegas has Obama -400.
Do people really bet on who is going to be president of the United States?
I agree with Mike on the up votes/down votes. This isn’t reddit, people.
My real decision lies in choosing which network to watch tomorrow night. Suggestions?
I agree with Mike. The thumbs up/thumbs down means very little, but it makes people think there is a consensus on the post.
I simply can’t read the font without a magnifying glass … I’d like the old look back.
The thumbs are gone.
Greg, I also noticed that HTML tags are no longer allowed in comments. Why’s that? It prevents people putting links in their comments.
I liked the thumbs. I often thought before them that ‘I’d like to ‘like’ that post.’ If I don’t like a post I go after it. I wouldn’t be deterred by a multiple down thumb vote on any post of mine.
Greg, you got rid of the thumbs based on a few (as far as I can see, 3 posts) opinions. Meanwhile, you had many more people approving of the thumbs by actually using them. Bring ’em back! I, for one, will give it a thumbs up.
@Kim: They’re easy to turn on and off. Some time after the election we will have a thumbs’ poll.
Investigating the font size and html tags.
I didn’t like the thumbs either but I really cant see them anyway since they and the font are soooooo small. Bring back the old format!!!
I wrote a lengthy post with detailed predictions last night. But something called “spam free word press” kept me from posting them. Tried again this morning. Same thing.
Gonna give this one more try.
Some predictions for Election Day…
President Obama: He wins!!! I never doubted him for a minute. He earned reelection the day the SEALS took out Bin Laden. He’s accomplished far more than he’s generally given credit for. 4 more years, and I’m betting they’re good ones, for the economy and our country. [I am an atheist. But if there is a God, please do not let me be wrong about this]. LOL
Elizabeth Warren: Hmmmm, I’m not so sure about this race. I know she’s been up in the polls, but I aint quite buying it. There are an awful lot of Brown lawn signs in Newton [of all places], and that can’t be a good sign for Warren. She’s earned my respect though, and I really hope she wins, because she’d make an awesome senator.
JK3: He’s a winner. Probably in a landslide. But he lost my vote when he failed to support medical marijuana. It’s especially troubling since Congressman Frank has been so supportive of reform. As a result of Joe’s omission, I’ll be leaving this ballot blank. I hope he’ll prove all the cynics wrong though [myself included], and turn out to be a leader in Congress.
Question 2: The “death with dignity” initiative should pass, but I predict it will not. Perhaps the legislature will prove a better forum for this issue. [On second thought, probably not].
Question 3: I believe medical marijuana passes by a wide margin. Most people understand this issue. It’s the politicians who really don’t get it.
Setti Warren: His name’s not on the ballot, but his future might be. Does Acela run to DC?
If Obama, Elizabeth Warren, and Joe K III win, we will see ourselves struggling in a few years like the socialistic European countries of Italy, Greece, Spain, etc. But we won’t have a Germany to bail us out. Perhaps China? The bin Laden thing would have been done by any sitting president. Obama was lucky. But at that point in his life, being sick and older, bin Laden was strategically inconsequential to Al Qaeda. He was a symbol, and is now more so as a martyr. When real insight was required O and his advisers screwed up big time and then lied about it in an unstable place like Libya, and showed us that, in spite of Obama’s empty rhetoric, we haven’t seen the last of Al Qaeda.
Interesting, though, Mike. Atheist, marijuana, suicide, and all the other things you espouse. Fits a syndrome that’s killing the US. I hope this election reverses that trend. Romney can be an important factor in that. Obama will just exacerbate it.
Obama wins. Warren Wins. Kerry becomes Sec. of State. Brown wins in runoff for Kerry’s seat over whomever to become the Jr. Senator again.
@Kim, That possible scenario — or another one where a Republican wins that seat — is exactly why John Kerry won’t be Secretary of State. Assuming Warren wins, Obama won’t give up a Democratic Senate seat (unless, I suppose, Kerry is already making waves about retiring in 2014).
@ Mike Striar – thanks for noticing the SCOTT BROWN lawn signs throughout Newton!
We have worked hard at building his presence in the City with Republicans, Independents and even Democrats…it will be a whisker thin victory in that race…my fingers are crossed.
I would like to give a “thumbs up” to Greer’s comment about the font size.
I always watch the election results on FoxNews because I am sick like that. And I have to tell you, they all look like they threw up in their mouths.
