End of an era. Where do we go now for our Polynesian food and fruit drinks in Voodoo head mugs?
When we first moved to Newton, in 1972, we tried South Pacific and determined that the Chinese/Polynesian restaurants of Philly, Trenton, and Chicago far out-ranked South Pacific in quality and execution. As time went on, however, and memories of those far away places faded, South Pacific rose in our esteem and we became regulars who sat in the back tiki room for many a meal. Our kids loved it (they had no memories of other places) and we found that it had risen to a higher level in our estimation. We sorely miss Peter, who was one of the first to leave before the doors were closed. Just last night my husband and I were trying to identify another local place where similar food could be found. Nothing we have tried has met the bar that South Pacific seems to have raised!
Such an icon. Sad. Thought maybe it would have stayed as a landmark, outliving it’s business for years much like the CITGO sign in Kenmore. On a more serious and hopeful note, it is probably coming down because Four Corners is about to get a new business.
