Just a reminder to please join us in Newton Highlands Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. us as we show support for our local merchants following a miserable winter for our Shop Local Cash Mob.
Similar to “flash mobs,” a “cash mob” is an event where a group of people gather together but instead of singing a song or doing a dance, they agree to spend some money.
In this case, we’ll meet at 10:30 a.m., in the plaza in front of the Newton Highlands Bread & Chocolate, have a very brief program extolling the virtues of shopping locally and then fan out and explore our local shops.
All we’re asking is that you agree to spend $10 (or more) at any store, restaurant or service business of your choice.
Rep Joe Kennedy, Newton Mayor Setti Warren and former Boston Bruins forward Don Marcotte will be there too. But really this is about gathering as a community and supporting the businesses that help make Newton special.
Hope to see at 10:30 at the corner of Lincoln and Hartford Streets.
It is also Independent Bookstore Day, so after all the fun on Lincoln St. you can support our Highlands bookstore across Rte. 9 by visiting New England Mobile Book Fair.

I saw a nice picture of Kennedy buying something at Bread & Chocolate! But I am sad….just heard that the original Bread & Chocolate in Newtonville has closed! What’s up with that, Greg??
@Native – The folks at B&C were not able to come to new terms with their landlord, and felt that they did not need the additional location given the success of the Newton Highlands location. Not sure what the landlord’s plans are for the space.
I’m really disappointed B & C is leaving Newtonville. Are the building owners not in on the plan to “revitalize Newtonville?” It just “gained” a nail salon and is losing B & C.
I do frequent the one in the Highlands. The cash mob along with the parade were a great time today. Well done.
