In January, Melanie Graham, Digital Content and Social Media Producer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, will be teaching two classes on social media at NewTV. The first class, Social Media for Beginners, will take place on Wednesday, January 14 at 7pm. The class is only $40 and allows participants to learn from a seasoned professional.

The Social Media for Beginners Class will focus mostly on Facebook and Twitter. Participants will learn how to set up a Facebook page for their business or organization and how to set up a Twitter account. They will also learn what type of content they should be posting and how to appropriately utilize their account.

Graham’s experience with social media will make her an excellent teacher. She has been working with social media in a professional setting for about five years. Her initial experience was at the Newton Patch, where she created all of their social media profiles including a Facebook page and a Twitter account. Over the two to three years she worked there, Newton Patch’s Twitter gained over 2,000 followers, which was rewarding for her to see.

At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Graham produces content for all of the digital and online assets. She coedits the blog and manages the Facebook page, Twitter account, Google+ page, LinkedIn page, and Instagram account. The overall digital content strategy also falls under her domain. As a cancer institute, their goal is to find out what content will be useful for patients and followers but will also help to promote the hospital itself and generate readership.
