Back in November, the Newton Nomadic Theater hosted its first Nomad Story Slam – a night of community storytelling. It was a great night with a big crowd and lots of storytellers.
We’ve scheduled the next one for Friday Jan 23, 7:30 PM at Gregorian Rugs in Lower Falls. Tickets ($10) are now on sale at the Nomadic Theater’s web site.
You can come down and hear great stories from your Newton neighbors. Better yet, come and tell a story yourself. The theme of the night is “moving on”. Stories should be 5 minutes long, be true, be about you, and be related to the “moving on” theme.
If you want a taste of the event, check out these recordings of the stories from the first Nomad Story Slam.
Master story teller and president of the Board of Aldermen Scott Lennon will be the featured story teller at the upcoming Nomad Story Slam. Mr Lennon was at the inaugural Story Slam back in November and told a moving and funny and heartfelt story about the day a fateful phone call came in. Listen here. We’re delighted to have him back again as the featured guest for this Story Slam.
For those of you who may be considering telling a story at next Friday’s event, we just put up a few general helpful tips on our web site.
Next Nomad Story Slam is this Friday 7:30 at Gregorian Rugs. Come on down for a night of community story-telling loosely modeled after the Moth Radio Hour. Consider throwing your name in the hat to tell your own story.
I’ve got a new story ready to go. In the meantime, here’s an old story.
Last night’s 2ND Nomad Story Slam was another fantastic night. Thanks to all the wonderful story tellers who shared their stories. Last night’s “moving on” theme gave this slam a completely different vibe than the last one with lots of very powerful and moving stories.
Thanks to our great Chris Pitts, Maureen Reilly-Meagher, Chris Thayer video crew we should have video versions of all these stories available on-line in a week or two.
Jerry.Something came up yesterday and Joanne and I couldn’t make it back in time for the show. And a snow emergency has been called through this evening, so we are going to have to cancel the soup social at the Hyde Center. Double bummer.
