Sign up today! Sunday’s going to be a beautiful day for it and it should be a great event.
Seana Gaherin from Dunn Gaherin’s Pub & Restaurant in Upper Falls is at it again. She’s put together another big, crazy, fun event that will help raise money for one of her favorite organizations – Project Hope. Project Hope started in 1981 when the Little Sisters of the Assumption opened their convent to homeless women and children in Boston. The organization is run by Sister Margaret Leonard (i.e. “the nun”) who Seana say is a real powerhouse of a woman who’s been doing amazing work for years in the Dudley Street area of Boston.
Dunn Gaherin’s has put together a team of three marathoners for the upcoming Boston Marathon. They’re all running the marathon to raise money for Project Hope. Seana’s one of the runners, in fact I spotted her and her dog last night on a training run on Chestnut Street in Waban. Most of us aren’t in shape to run marathons so Seana’s put together this event for the rest of us.
“Run for the Nun” will be this Sunday April 6 at 10AM starting at Dunn Gaherin’s restaurant in Upper Falls. It’s a 5K (3.2 mile) fun run for everyone. Bring your kids, bring your dog, run, walk, skip or dance the 3.2 mile loop at whatever pace you like and end up back at Dunn Gaherin’s for a big crazy party. There’ll be face painting, hair braiding, massages from our local masseuse, buzz cuts or hair insignias from Mike, of Mike’s Classic Barber Shop.
The run will be led by Grand Marshall Trish Hegarty. Ms. Hegarty is a Needham resident and contestant this year on CBS’s Survivor reality TV show and a friend of Seana’s. You won’t be able to miss her. She’ll be the one running in a pink bikini, her standard uniform on Survivor.
It cost $25 for adults, $10 for kids, and dogs are free. All proceeds will go to benefit Project Hope. Here’s their Facebook page and you can sign up here. So sign up today. If Seana’s behind it, you’re going to love it.
… and if you’re really lazy, sign up for the event anyway and just come to the party.
Your donation will still be appreciated whether or not you break a sweat.
Is this post image from Project Hope?
…I do now see similar ads on the web. My concern was the presentation of a catholic nun from times gone by mostly, where Newton was concerned about High School plays and historical images of such and such.
Just announced … the Grand Marshall of the event will be Needham resident Trish Hegarty. Ms. Hegarty is a contestant in this season’s “Survivor”, the CBS reality TV show. She’s also a friend of Seana’s and the aunt of one of the Dunn Gaherin’s waitresses.
She’ll be leading the crowd on the run in her Survivor uniform – a pink bikini.
60 degrees and sunny predicted for Sunday’s Run for the Nun. Sign up now and run, walk or just come to the party.
It was a great event today. Here’s a photo of the start and one of the after-party in Dunn Gaherin’s parking lot.
The fun run had roughly 200 people with maybe half running and half walking. My favorite participants were 11 year old Mari Jackson (no relation) & Madelyn Laughlin who sang for the entire 3.2 mile walk.
The after party featured a wacky collection of activities – a fire engine, massages, haircuts, face painting, hair braiding, a roving magician, and food and drink.
One of our Upper Falls neighbors heard about the event just yesterday and came down to give a personal testimonial about Project Hope. She told about her journey from homelessness, to a home, to a college degree, to a stable productive life thanks to Project Hope and their assistance with both housing and college tuition.
Many thanks to Seana Gaherin and the whole crew at Dunn Gaherin’s for once again putting together another great community event and raising money for a good cause.
… an no Terry, I’m not going to those tryouts.
Totally fun event. Great turnout. Great cause.
We definitely need a “like” button!
