The Rox Cafe opened in its new location on Lincoln Street in Newton Highlands today. The restaurant fills a big void in the neighborhood left when Baker’s Best closed its retail location.
Having passed the always busy Newtonville location that was too full to try, it was cool to walk in during their soft opening and get a choice of seats. The interior is nicely updated, bright and inviting. The food was well prepared and they have a good draft beer selection.
I am sure that the residents of the Highlands will be welcoming the Rox Cafe to the community.
Great dinner. We welcome the cafe to the neighborhood. I can’t wait to see how they stock the take out area!
How big is the bar, and is there a good draught beer selection?
Bip,
We went last night and had a terrific time. It was very quiet, they are letting the action build. The bar seats 12 and there’s a very good selection of draft beer; Long Trail, Whales tale, Mayflower IPA, and two others I can’t recall. Plus some nice bottles. Interestingly, they don’t have any alcohol by National brands. So the Vodka, Scotch, Gin selections are a bit boutiquey. I’m not sure how that works for the average consumer.
The food was really excellent. A nice addition to the neighborhood.
I’ll have to try the restaurant. Went by the “market” area briefly yesterday and it felt very cramped. I also (very nicely) let them know that when they make the permanent signs for that area they need to be sure that they’re more readable for people with middle-aged eyes.
Love the Newtonville shop, I’m excited to see how this one differs.
Stopped by for dinner, great atmosphere, same high quality food as Newtonville… It is definitely not a diner experience, but a restaurant experience. So don’t expect a mirror image menu from Newtonville. Atmosphere reminds me of a cafe you’d see in Katonah, NY… Upscale, clean, bright and welcoming.
Hopefully they’ll avoid the health violations that got their W. Roxbury location shut down recently:
