The Boston Herald is reporting that recently retired Congressman Barney Frank, D-Newton, told Governor Deval Patrick that he’s interesting in filling the U.S. Senate seat that would be vacant if Senator John Kerry makes it through the confirmation process for Secretary of State as expected. (Long sentence, but you know what I mean: Barney Frank wants John’s Kerry’s seat temporarily.) Barney wants to be in Washington to help resolve the fiscal cliff crisis.
Seems like a no-brainer to me. I can’t imagine that the governor will even consider anybody else.
I think he’s a very sensible choice for an interim appointment. He knows the issues, already has a staff, and can be more productive than most temporary “fill-ins” would be.
The rumor is that even if only in the position fro 5 months, it will help his pension quite a bit.
OK with me. But I doubt that’s his motivation. It’s not as if Frank needs extra cash to, for example, maintain the wardrobe he became accustomed to while representing us in Congress.
what a farce!
No better choice for Democrats for this short period of time. Dan, his pension is a pittance compared to what’s at stake during the time he would have influence. Remember, your’s is just a rumor too.
