Remember this post and this one? It’s happening! There’s a CA$H MOB coming to Auburndale this Saturday, November 10 – please come! Show your support for local business and come spend $10 (or more!) at an Auburndale business of your choice.
At 10 a.m. the Newton Needham Chamber of Commerce will be holding a press conference in front of Just Next Door (327 Auburn St.) with Mayor Warren and others to announce the kick-off of a brand new Shop Local campaign. Immediately following the announcement, all are encouraged to engage in a “cash mob.” Similar to “flash mobs,” a cash mob is an event where a group of people gather together but instead of singing a song or doing a dance, they agree to spend some money. Could there be a much greater mob mentality?
Many of your Village 14 bloggers will be there and, I’m sure if you asked really nicely, we’d sing a song or do a dance just to make the event extra special!
All kidding aside, come by, learn more about the Shop Local campaign, spend some money with your neighbors, and enjoy a great morning in one of Newton’s wonderful villages!
Great idea and Just Next Door is a great place to kick it off. Last year we published Ken Newcomb’s history of Newton Upper Falls and were looking for local businesses to sell it. Just Next Door said that they’d love to, since it was a fundraiser for a local organization. They sold a stack of copies and couldn’t have been any easier to work with.
I’ll be down there Saturday … and I’ll bring my wallet
I’d recommend that you all go to the next “Cash Mob”. Apparently, this morning about a half hour before the event was scheduled to start, someone approached Greg Reibman, one of the Cash Mob ringleaders (and Village14 head honcho). The man said he couldn’t stay for the event but handed Greg $100 to give out, to be spent in local stores.
So when the crowd gathered and the event started, Greg began handing out $$$. Mostly it went to the kids in the crowd – and boy were they ever thrilled.
So remember, the next time you hear of a “Cash Mob” you better run down there in hopes of getting some free money.
