After 31 years, Rep. Barney Frank, a force in Congress, is retiring. Now there is a race for this open seat in the redrawn 4th District. Who will be the next Congressman? What will his priorities be for the nation and the District? How do these candidates measure up?
Local League of Women Voters chapters in the District have banded together to give voters a first-hand look at the candidates. On Monday, October 15, 2012, the League will sponsor a candidates’ forum for the candidates for the 4th Congressional District, at Alumnae Hall, Wellesley College, 106 Central Street, Wellesley, from 7:30 – 9:00 PM.
Eva Valentine, President of the League of Women Voters of Massachusetts said, “The League is excited to sponsor a debate for this open seat during such a critical election year. No organization is more qualified than the League to present a nonpartisan debate focused on issues. It is the League that made debates a staple of the election season. Our goal is simple. We want voters to go the polls informed, and there is no better way to do that than by hearing directly from the candidates.”
The participating candidates are Sean Bielat, Republican, and Joe Kennedy, Democrat. An experienced League member from outside of the district will moderate the debate. Candidates will answer the audience’s written and oral questions. Instead of ads and sound bites, the candidates will address the issues on everyone’s mind: foreign policy, health care, the economy, jobs, taxes, and more.
