The Public Safety & Transportation Committee of the Board of Aldermen will hold a hearing Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 8:00 pm in Room 202, Second Floor to discuss the likely impacts on traffic (including adding two traffic lights) in Newton from the changes to the Route 9/128 intersection (pdf) as part of the Add-A-Lane Project. This is not a public hearing, but written opinions will be accepted.
Naturally, written opinions are always welcome here too. Just click “comments.”
Matt Cuddy writes about this on the Newton Villages blog.
Newton Citizens who use 128 in either direction or who live in or near Chestnut Street, Quinobequin Road, or other streets that tend to be impacted by traffic problems on the Highway or who need Route 9 should look into this project. Left turns off of 128 North and South will controlled by stop lights at Route 9 which may back up traffic on Route 9 and divert traffic to city streets. For more information, check the Public Safety and Transportation Committee section of the Board of Aldermen web site and the Major Projects section of the Newton Planning Department’s web site. Or just keep watching the agenda of the PS &T Committee. State staff and consultants will attend a future meeting of the Committee to answer questions formulated by Alderman Kalis and me and others.
