Alderman Ted Hess-Mahan tells Wicked Local’s Trevor Jones that he has “not made a decision yet” about running for reelection….a potentially huge loss, if you ask me.
Meanwhile, Newton Patch’s Melanie Graham (who has already announced she will no longer be attending aldermen meetings) has a wrap-up of everyone who has pulled papers as of yesterday.
Given that Gerry Chervinsky may not really be running for alderman and Greer Tan Swiston’s prior decision not to run, we don’t yet have anyone publicly saying they’re running for the two Ward 3 At Large seats.
(Incumbent Angela Pitter-Wright has yet to pull papers for School Committee from Ward 3 but she has said she will do so.)
I’d like to run but I’m in Ward 4.
Even though I didn’t see things eye to eye with Alderman Hess-Mahan all the time, I do think he would be a huge loss for the Board. He was always open for discussion (accessible), he always put in lots of time for the Board and he took it incredibly seriously. If he decides not to run, he will be missed.
Run Ted Run!
I only go back 50 years in Newton, but I can state without reservation that Ted Hess-Mahan is one of the finest Aldermen in the incorporated history of our city. He’s not only contemporaneously effective on behalf of his constituents, he’s also remarkably visionary when it comes to Newton’s future. In my opinion, if he decides not to run, it would be a huge blow to our city’s government.
