The Newton Patch reports that former alderman (1991-2003) Allan Ciccone Sr will be running for the vacant Ward 1 alderman-at-large seat in the upcoming election. Depending on the election results, we could end up with two pairs of family member on the Board of Aldermen next year.
In Ward 1 Allan Ciccone Sr could be joining his son, incumbent aldermen Allan (Jay) Ciccone Jr . Over in Ward 8, Rick Lipoff could be joining his sister, alderman Cheryl Lappin on next year’s Board.
Who’s next Leslie Berg? Why not bring back former Alderman David Cohen too!
David B. Cohen qualifies, assuming he still lives in Ward 8! I won’t be surprised if we see Yeo running for Ward 2 Alderman (unless he has recently moved to another ward) :-D.
Wow – it just dawned on me! If Rick Lipof and Allan Ciccone Sr. are both elected to the Board of Aldermen, (along with Cheryl Lappin and Jay Ciccone) 17% of our elected representatives will be from two Newton families.
I’d pay to watch David Cohen debate Gail Spector for a Ward 8 alderman seat.
@Greg: I’d actually run if David Cohen would run against me.
I should add…as long as I wouldn’t have to serve.
Mark my words. If the election to fill the vacancy in the seat caused by the death of Alderman at-large Carleton Merrill does not take place this spring — as it should — here’s what will happen in the fall elections:
Scott Lennon will announce that he is going to run at-large, and Allan Ciccone Sr. is going to say he doesn’t want to run against his son, Allan Jr. (Jay), and Scott, so he’ll run for the ward seat instead.
If I were a gambling woman, I’d bet on this. But I’m not.
Not only would 17% come from two families, 8.3% of the Board would be named Allan Cicone.
He’s going for it again…
