Because as Deanna Mirsky writes, this one will be held on the 7th day of Passover..
… perhaps the “rule” on absentee voting could be suspended? And please–can more thought be given to the caucus day situation?

Deanna has presented a strong case for flexibility to address what are clearly deep spiritual and religious needs of some of our members. The first part should be easy. Just don’t schedule the reorganization on any date that conflicts with Passover or any other religious holiday. We don’t currently schedule things on Easter, Good Friday or even on Holy Thursday, so why be insensitive to these legitimate concern.
I’ve even got a suggestion, that may have merit, for solving the inability of observant Jews to travel long distances to caucus on a Saturday. Why not hold a Citywide Caucus in mid-afternoon on the Monday of Presidents Day in February?? What better day for a civic engagement than a day set aside to remember some of America’s most important figures.
I know there may be an arcane rule or two from the Democratic State Committee about when caucuses have to be held; My God, we do have some arcane rules; but, if so, it would seem that this is something that would merit a quick fix.
What Bob said. There should be a window of opportunity for voting in any election at any level that accounts for individual circumstances. I may be wrong on this one, but this election isn’t done by ballot. You have to publicly declare for whom you’re voting. At best, a very odd way to conduct an election.
