StorySlam400Width | Newton MA News and Politics BlogIt’s  a busy weekend ahead for the Newton Nomadic Theater.

The 4th Nomad Story Slam is Friday night, 7:30 at Gregorian Rugs in Lower Falls.  This night of community storytelling is part of the Newton Festival of the Arts.  To help celebrate the art in Newton we’ve invited three Newton authors as special invited storytellers.  Come hear their stories as well as stories from lots of others of your Newton neighbors

* Gail Spector – author of the Legendary Locals of Newton.  It features over 100 profiles of interesting, famous and legendary Newtonians from all walks of life – sports, politics, arts, business

* Dave Kalis – author of Vodka Shot, Pickle Chaser.  The true life tale of a younger Dave Kalis finding himself standing atop a Soviet tank, impersonating a photo-journalist, as the entire Soviet Union crumbles around him.   “A real life thriller” says the Boston Globe

* Nelson Lipshutz – author of The Mecca Plan.  An international thriller in which a college student’s summer trip to Israel spins wildly out of control.  “For a first novel, this has it all”.

Come join these local authors and tell your own story.  Should be five minutes long, true and be connected to the night’s theme “a long way from home”.  For storytelling tips or more info go here.

We’ve been getting big crowds for these events so far but we expect this one to sell out – so get your tickets early.

Beauty Queen of Leenane by Martin McDonagh- The Newton Nomadic Theater’s newest production opened this past weekend in Lower Falls.  This coming weekend we’ll be doing two performances at the Auburndale Community Library – Saturday night at 7:30, Sunday at 3 PM.

Linda | Newton MA News and Politics BlogThis show is compelling – it will scare you, make you laugh, give you chills – it’s a wild ride of a story.  It features two Newton actors.  Linda Goetz (left) is mesmerizing as Maureen, the Beauty Queen.  Nomadic newcomer Matt Phillips is a New York based but Waban born actor, who’s come back home to Newton to play Ray Dooley, the very funny guy who lives down the road.  Lida McGirr is also new to the Nomadic Theater and plays old Mags at the center of it all.   Dave Rich, seen back in September’s production of Faith Healer, returns to play Pato Dooley.

Other big news – Solas Nua, the Boston based Irish theater company has invited the Newton Nomadic Theater to do a special one-night-only guest production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane at The Burren in Somerville (Davis Square) on Monday, June 1.

Tickets ($20) for all shows available at http://NewtonNomadicTheater.org – Don’t miss it!
