Seems to be working but how about something more controversial 🙂 I know I should think of something and blog about it.
I had submitted a comment regarding the Coach Jordan subject. It was brilliant. You would laugh, you would cry, you would howl with delight. But somehow in the changeover to this format it was lost. Oh well. I’ll wait another year for the Pulitzer.
I like the new look Greg.
All working well, Greg
Looks good to me…
Preview works too.
Working fine on my phone. The print is really light, very little contrast from the light grey background. My eyes are not what they used to be.
Looks great, works fine.
I saw Terry’s comment, and it was truly as magnificent as he claims. The comment that got away.
I have a copy of Terry’s comment but I think by this point the legend may be greater the substance. Terry, I’ll trade you a beer for not publishing it.
Testing 1-2-3… I did try posting on the South baseball story yesterday, but the comment was rejected. The site said my comment was “spam,” but I suspect the School Committee may have installed a filter to keep my posts from appearing.
Looks good to me.
I saw the post via the RSS feed so that’s working as well.

Works for me!
Reading this on Feedly. I saw a bunch of old posts pushed out earlier but this is working right. It is loading much faster for sure!!
Works great on iPad. No more floating around my screen.
Reading loud…but not clear. Greg, your post was legible, but others all fine print…are we trying subterfuge? 😉
I’m not seeing what you must be seeing Sallee, can you explain and what device are you using?
Reading fine on my computer…But, on my Galaxy Smartphone, very, very small print…very hard to read! Also, on my computer, as I am typing this response, the print is almost the same gray color as the background…such low contrast that it is also very difficult to edit and may lead to even more spelling errors!!!!!!
Why is my response indented so much?
@Sallee: Indents fixed! Working on the gray type
Why can’t you double click on comments? Now you have to click on “read more” to reach the comments. If you’ve already read 10 comments, and just want to see what’s new, I used to be able to click on comments. Thanks.
For those interested, somehow my submission was co-opted by Michelle Obama and used as her DNC speech. A few names/places were changed but the spirit was there. Apparently, Melania Trump saw it and sent it over to her.
You really need to address village14 hacking issue, Greg.
@Terry, I was waiting to hear Michelle Obama say something like “… in the words of Melania Trump quoting me…” last night. I guess she got to you first.
Generally looks good, just to reiterate what Jo-Louise said: In the old format you could see the number of comments on a post right under the preview. That way you could know if there’s anything new in a particular discussion without needing to open the post. If you could get it to work the same way now it would be nice.
I take it back – now I see you do show the number of comments. Still, would be nice if it were a direct link.
Indeed that would be nice.
I see that’s not available at this time in the theme development.
I’ll put this in for a development request.
Seems to be coming in loud and clear.
Thanks, Greg and Jon…the type is now slightly darker on the comment area on my computer screen. And the indent is gone. Do we now have to log in each time we comment?
The light color on the comment section is a tad easier to read now. More contrast from the light grey background. I’m finding it hard to edit comments when I’m inserting missed letters.
I second Sallee’s question about having to sign in every time. The print is still quite light on the sign in spaces.
The scrolling comments on the right sidebar are blurred, or printed over each other, now on my iPad. This wasn’t the case earlier.
Michele gave the speech of the night. I’m sure Melania’s speech writers pulled out a few key points.
Now I can read the recent comments, not scrolling anymore, but I liked having the beginning of the comment show as it did this am. Now it just shows 4 comments with the name of the thread. There were 2 adds before; now there is a third where the rest of the comments were. This way there is no way to tell if the comment is new since the last time I looked or if I have already read it.
Love it. Love the font, love the bag, love the shoes.
Could you please make the type for the stories and comments the same size? Now that the comments are in smaller type, I can’t adjust the page so that reading them both is comfortable. Either the story’s type is too large or the comments’ type is too small.
@mgwa – I tend to think the main story font is too large, but (more importantly) 100% agree that it’s a lot easier to “fix” to personal preference if they’re the same.
Love most of the other aspects of the update!
@jonathan – I agree that the main story font is too large, at least when reading on a computer. Fortunately I use FireFox, which remembers my size preferences for sites, so I only have to make the adjustment once if all the fonts are the same size.
One more pair of comments:
1) Previously, if I pressed “submit comment” and there was a problem (missing name, wrong capcha), what I typed would still be there when I returned to fix the problem. Now the comment is erased when I return – VERY annoying to lose the entire comment over a minor error.
2) Your old site (and most other sites that take comment) show your name and email autofilled (or allow your browser to do so) after the first time you’ve filled in those fields. Now it doesn’t, which is a pain – especially when it leads to accidentally submitting before filling them in, therefore losing one’s comment.
Greg and Jon: My aging eyes really struggle to read the comments on my cellphone. Please increase font size a bit!
Wow, nice changes here at Village 14.
I’ve increased the font size on phone. Should be a significant change.
Don’t forget, in order for you to see the changes, you may have to CLEAR YOUR BROWSER CACHE ON YOUR PHONE.
I’ve also fixed the sliding around on mobile. This had an ad off to the right and the site “floated” around the mobile screen. Should be locked solid right now.
Still working on things. Keep your comments coming.
Wow, Jon. Love the larger font and stationary site on my phone.
The darker print is great when writing comments.
@Jon – thank you for being so responsive!
Would it be possible to show the HTML tags that can be used in comments? For example, on the UniversalHub site there is text below the comment box (can’t get it to quote properly here because it lists tags, which then get applied).
Let me look into that, I know what you mean. May have to be a future development request. You should feel free to email me.
Looks like most standard HTML is available, esp. images and links.
@Jon – thanks. One more request. In the past, and on most other similar sites, my name and email can stay autofilled (if I set my browser for it) so I don’t have to redo them for each post. That’s no longer true. A small thing, but a bit of a pain. If that could be fixed, it would be appreciated.
@mgw not sure I get what you are talking about
Looks like the link to the comments is working as designed. It will not work on the homepage as it is not supposed to. The homepage has been changed to only have excerpts not a full-functioning post, like a table of contents. The idea is to have folks click on the read more to then get the full-functioning post. The link works there.

Jon – the site is not working well for me. When I’m on V14, it heats up within 2 minutes and I can’t click onto new threads. When I write, it takes about 10-15 seconds for the text to appear. This doesn’t happen on any other website. I’m writing this info as fast as I can before my computer begins to heat up.
Any hints?
Jane, try disabling the flash player.
Jon, on mobile devices, at least on iPad and iPhone, in the name and email address boxes there is no arrow that drops down a choice to select from. In addition, there is no auto-infill after beginning to insert a name or email in either box.
You said this arrow and infill are on a computer using a cursor. Many of us don’t use those computers when commenting. That is why there are typos in names and frustration when forgetting to fill in the boxes or making typos when inserting the email and losing the comment.
On the old site, they were already filled in when the thread was opened. Will you please add that to the mobile site? Thanks.
I see mgwa mentioned this and asked for a fix in the comments on 8/14, just above your 8/18 comment on links, after which you replied you were not sure what she was talking about.
My comment just above is what she was talking about. Would really appreciate a fix. Thanks.
Jon – Thanks. It seems to be working.
